BRUSHES FOR OIL PAINTING.
In this basics section I will be covering the following topics -
Brush Types
Which brush for which job
cleaning brushes
Any brand names used are only my personal preference
BRUSH TYPES
Flat brushes (Brights)

Above is an image of my flat brushes. The black handled brushes are Pure Sable whilst the remaining ones are synthetic, the shorter haired brushes are called brights and the longer haired are called flats. I mainly use these Brushes for the initial blocking in of colours or where a straight edge is needed. I can personally find no great difference between synthetic and sable brushes other than the fact that for me the sable appear to last a little longer.

Round Brushes and Liner Brushes
The image of my round brushes show quite an array, but you certainly don't need this many to begin with, infact the brushes are of only 7 different sizes - No's - 5, 3, 2, 1, 0, 00, 000 the extra ones are brushes that have been used so much that they only have a few hairs remaining. Once again I find little difference between sable and synthetic brushes.
the bottom two are actually not brushes at all, but colous shapers, these are quite recent additions to the market and they have many uses. They are very much like a brush with a flexible eraser on the top. I use mine to remove small areas of wet paint so that the paint has a better surface to stick to.

I hope that you have enjoyed this Basics section, Please take a few moments now to fill in my GUEST BOOK as your feedback is very important to me.
