| Along
the same lines as "the Best of Wildlife Art" but
in my opinion this comiplation of work is even better. The
best part of the book along with the fantastic paintings is
the brief look into the history and thinking of each artist
included. A great inspirational read. |

| Another
newly published book from North Light. This step by step book
begins by covering composition/transfering your sketch/supplies/using
an airbrush etc. Then goes on to show how John creates Haze
and fog/different lighting effects and most importantly for
me how to create rock/mud/sand/bark textires plus lots more.
It should be noted that all the demos are painted using acrylic
paint with some airbrush technique used here and there, that
said the demos can easily be adapted if you use oil paints. |

| If
you are learning to paint the sea, then this book, by undoubtedly
one of the masters, is a must have. The book is broken into
four main sections: - Section 1. Concentrates on equipment
and outdoor sketches. In Section 2. the anatomy of the wave,
painting translucent water, beaches etc. etc. are covered
in depth. Section 3. is made up of step-by-step demonstrations,
and finally Section 4. is a gallery of E. John's paintings.
A fantastic Oil painting book. |

This
is another valuable addition to my wildlife book collection
(you can never have too many, can you? although my wife thinks
so). As expected from Rod Lawrence this book is a little biased
towards Acrylics, with 10 Acrylic demos, 6 watercolour and
4 oil demos, that said if you paint with oils in a layering
style like myself then there is really very little difference
between the styles. The book contains excellent sections on
drawing birds, anatomy, plumage etc. etc. In all a great book
which you will keep referring to. |

| Don't
let the title put you off, this book is very relevant to the
painting of all wildlife not just hooved animals. The step
by step demos are excellent and very detailed as are Cynthie's'
paintings. It should be noted though that all the demos use
Acrylics, but once again, if you paint in oils using a similar
technique to the one I use then there is very little difference.
The sketching sections are excellent and the Zebra demo is
inspirational. This has rapidly become one of my most used
books! |

| Not
a demo book as such, but still fantastic. If you like animals
and you are looking for inspiration for future paintings or
you just love looking at wildlife art, then this is the best
I've come across so far. I have reviewed part 2 of this book
previously but this one - the original - is still the best.
More than 120 paintings of wildlife, from birds to Zebra,
with brief write-ups from the artist about the paintings. |

A
highly detailed (oil) portrait demo book. Sections include,
among others - Drawing the head, Values, Premier coup, etc.
The main section, the step by step demos, contains 2 demos,
each completed as you might have guessed, in 29 steps. Each
step is very detailed, giving colour mixing formulas etc.
The only thing I was mildly disappointed in was the fact that
the artist uses his own brand of "Pro mix colors"
for certain flesh tones. These as far as I am aware are not
available in the UK, don't let this put you off though as
the artist describes how to mix these colours from standard
paints. |

Another
oil portrait book, but the subject is looked at in a different
way than the book above. After the basics are covered (the
artist uses standard oils) the face is looked at in detail,
taken a feature at a time i.e. The Eyes, The Nose etc. with
full colour details given at each stage. The Demos section
(7 demos) is once again highly detailed, leaving nothing to
chance. I can't think of any way that this book could have
been improved upon, it's excellent! |
