About Jason Morgan

If you’d told me years ago that I’d one day make a living teaching thousands of people how to paint animals, I probably would’ve laughed. When I first picked up my pencils, I was simply trying to figure things out for myself — teaching me how to draw and paint what I loved most: animals.

About Jason Morgan

I’ve always been fascinated by animals. There’s something about the light in their eyes and the textures of fur and feathers that feels alive — but also incredibly challenging to capture. Like many artists starting out, I remember feeling completely overwhelmed. Where do you even begin with something as detailed as a tiger’s coat or the soft light on a fox’s fur?

So I did what most artists do — I made a lot of mistakes, learned from them, and kept experimenting. Over time, I began to see patterns: ways to break down the chaos of detail into simple, logical steps. That’s when everything started to click.

I began documenting my process with photos, and later videos, never intending to teach anyone else. But when other artists started reaching out, asking how I achieved certain effects, I realised that sharing what I’d learned brought me just as much joy as creating the art itself.

More than 25 years later, I’ve filmed over 300 lessons, appeared on the covers of numerous art magazines  and guided thousands of artists around the world — from complete beginners to those rediscovering their creative spark after years away. And every time someone sends me their latest drawing with the words, “I never thought I could do this,” I’m reminded exactly why I teach.

Because I know that feeling. The doubt, the frustration, the excitement when things finally start to work.

If you love animals and have the desire to create, you’re already halfway there. The rest, we’ll tackle together — one layer, one pencil stroke, one breakthrough at a time.

My goal has always been to make art approachable, to show that realism isn’t about natural talent, it’s about clear steps, the right tools, and the courage to start.
